What our numbers are
Our calculators and data pages start from published population statistics, such as national life tables, and in some tools adjust them with simplified weightings drawn from published research on habits like smoking, physical activity, alcohol and sleep. The result describes what happens on average to large groups of people with similar characteristics. It cannot account for your full medical history, genetics, current illnesses, medications, access to care, or chance events. Two people with identical answers can live very different lives.

Nothing on this site replaces advice, diagnosis or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional. Always ask your doctor or another qualified provider about any health question, and never ignore or delay professional advice because of something you read or calculated here. Using the site does not create a doctor–patient relationship.

Our pages are written and checked by the Lifespan Check editorial team, and health statements link to their sources, such as the CDC, NIH and peer-reviewed studies. Our content is not currently reviewed by a licensed medical professional. See our methodology and About page.
